Charming stay overlooking Lake Garda, with a restaurant next door
I was immediately impressed by the wide-open views on arrival. The castle, an old villa dating back to the 1800s with a newer adjoining residence, is set on a peaceful hill just outside Desenzano del Garda. From the garden, you can enjoy sweeping views across Lake Garda. You stay on a historic estate within a natural park surrounded by olive trees and greenery, while the lively centre of Desenzano remains close at hand. It is an ideal setting for those looking for peace and quiet without feeling too remote.
The charming town of Desenzano del Garda is just a few minutes away by car and offers plenty of restaurants, shops and a pleasant lakeside promenade. From here, you can easily explore other well-known towns around the lake, such as Sirmione, famous for its narrow streets and castle on the peninsula. Salò, Peschiera del Garda, Lazise and Bardolino are also all worth visiting. Verona, with its famous Roman arena, is within easy reach for a day trip, as are the rolling hills of Valpolicella, renowned for the wine of the same name.
Swimming pool with children’s pool
The swimming pool is centrally located in the garden and overlooks the lake — a lovely place to cool off or spend a relaxing day. The estate is surrounded by a park of approximately 50,000 m² with olive trees, creating a spacious and green setting. There is also a separate children’s pool, parking and a charging point for electric cars. A number of bicycles are available free of charge for guests, subject to availability, and two Vespas can be hired at an additional cost. As the lake is only a short distance away, pebble beaches, a small harbour and various opportunities for water sports are all close by.
Restaurant within walking distance
Next to the castle is a restaurant that you can easily walk to, ideal if you prefer not to drive again in the evening. Here you can enjoy a traditional Italian dinner with antipasti, primi and secondi. During my visit the restaurant was closed (Monday), but it gave a well-kept and welcoming impression. At the front there is also a terrace with views over Lake Garda.
The apartments
There are 27 apartments in total, 11 located in the historic villa and 16 in the adjoining residence. You can choose between monolocale apartments (open-plan studios), bilocale apartments (with 1 bedroom) and trilocale apartments (with 2 bedrooms).
The apartments are spacious and well-maintained, featuring classic details such as wooden beams and terracotta floors. Most have a private terrace, balcony or outdoor seating area, often with views of the lake or garden. Facilities include air conditioning, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and a safe.
In short
A lovely place with beautiful views over Lake Garda, close to charming towns and with a restaurant right next door. Ideal for those wanting to explore the lake from a peaceful and comfortable base.
