An agriturismo is a farm that has holiday accommodation available for guests. That could be an apartment, luxury villa or renovated mansion, but also a bed & breakfast (b&b). Most agriturismos produce wine or olive oil, but they often also make cheese, honey or jam. They are lovely places where one can enjoy informal hospitality and the local dishes and homemade products. And if you want to discover the surrounding area, the owner of the agriturismo will gladly help you with lots of good advice.
As agriturismos are situated in remote locations, you really need a car. And bear in mind that the access road may be unpaved. Your destination certainly makes up for that.
Holidaying in the Italian countryside
My Italy has many agriturismo-b&bs not far from famous places, such as Bellagio on Lake Como, Alba in Piedmont, Siena and Lucca in Tuscany, Alberobello in Puglia, Noto and Syracuse in Sicily. We also have b&bs that are not far from the sea. What could be nicer than relaxing in your swimming pool after a day exploring? Some agriturismos have a small spa with sauna and/or jacuzzi. Or, for the ultimate relaxation, offer massages. Some agriturismos even offer rooms that have a small private swimming pool.

If you stay in an agriturismo, you will enjoy a holiday in the authentic Italian countryside. Away from the crowds and in the depths of the country. Start the day with a wholesome breakfast: Italian coffee, sweet buns and sun-ripened fruit of the season. There is usually a buffet with plenty of choice. At some of the properties that offer rooms, you can also sign up for the evening meal. You may be invited to dine with the Italian family at their long welcoming table. Or you can dine at a cosy restaurant or a lively terrace.
